I’m Andy, the founder and owner of Roof Cleaning Ltd.
In 1984 I started Roof Works, repairing and repainting roofs. In 1994 this evolved into Armourshield Roof Coatings, specialising in cleaning, restoration and recoating of all types of roofs with high performance coatings. Over that time we fully restored more than 1200 roofs and gained valuable experience and knowledge about cleaning and maintaining roofs. We developed Bio-Shield based on that experience and have now used it commercially for over 40 years for roof cleaning.
Bio-Shield is now used nationwide in New Zealand and Australia, by Regional and City Councils, Major Infrastructure, Facilities and Property Managers and many Local Roof Maintenance Contractors near you.

What is Bio-Shield®
Bio-Shield is a biodegradable, hard surface sanitiser with very low toxicity to humans, animals and plants. Bio-Shield selectively and powerfully kills moss, algae, lichen on any roof surface. When applied to your roof, Bio-Shield will immediately start working to kill these damaging growths and gives a complete kill within hours.
Bio-Shield does not contain any bleach, salt or phosphates so its completely safe and effective to use on any roof. Bio-Shield Roof Cleaning is also known as soft washing, roof washing, or roof treatment.
How does Bio-Shield® Work
Bio-Shield does not give an instant clean roof – your roof self-cleans gently over time as rain and wind work to remove the dead growth. The clean-up process starts around 2 to 3 months after application, once the dead growths have decayed enough to be washed away by rain. The clean up process may take up to 12 months to complete. Clean up times depend on the type of roof, how much growth is present and how much rain falls.
Bio-Shield will clean your roof without causing any of the damage associated with harsh salt or chlorine based chemicals or water blast cleaning. With no moss, lichen or algae on the roof, the high quality factory coating is protected from damage.
How to Maintain your Roof with Bio-Shield®
After 2 to 3 years spores that have naturally settled on your roof will begin to grow into visible algae and lichens when conditions are favourable.
Re-applying Bio-Shield every 2 to 3 years will keep your roof clean and protected.
When roofs are treated regularly with Bio-Shield, any new regrowth is quickly removed – sometimes within weeks, leaving the roof clean for another 2 to 3 years.
